About Therapy

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy has been extensively researched and proven to be an effective treatment for a range of conditions.

What is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Like all therapies, treatment involves gaining an understanding of your problems and how they have developed. Therapy focuses on the here and now, on how current problems interfere with your day to day life and distress you.

Therapy is collaborative , that is, you and your therapist will work together to understand and develop strategies to address your difficulties and set goals for how this is to be achieved. The therapy is structured , and often uses exercises and in between session activities (homework) to help test out new ideas in practice. Therapy sessions are aimed at equipping you with skills you can continue to use once therapy has finished to help you deal effectively with future problems should they arise.

How l work

You are welcome to contact me to discuss whether l will be able to help. There is no charge for a telephone discussion and no obligation. If we agree to meet for an initial assessment this will be charged at the same standard rate as all other sessions.

The initial assessment session can take between one hour and one and a half hours. You will be asked specific questions about the problems or difficulties you are experiencing. You will also be asked to complete questionnaires. At the end of the assessment l will discuss what l think is keeping your problems going and what the treatment plan will involve.

I can provide you with details of fees on request.

I am registered with AXA /PPP, so my fees can be claimed by clients with suitable types of health insurance cover. For some policies, clients may need to be referred by their GP or Consultant, so there should always check with the insurer.
